Peer Mentors

Peer Mentors

Students who are interested in individual coaching can do so as part of our peer mentor scheme. This is open to all pupils from year 8 onwards who are keen to help others by passing on their skills, qualities and experience. Full training is given to each pupil before a partner is selected and the weekly meetings begin, with regular reviews held to check on progress. The scheme has been running for a number of years and has a proven track record of helping the children make better choices whilst building the confidence of our mentors.

How does it work?

Peer mentor vacancies are advertised around school and in assemblies in the Summer Term. Successful applicants are given full training by teachers and current mentors, on how to be a peer mentor, including confidentiality, communication skills and safeguarding.

Students attend peer mentor meetings every fortnight where they are assigned mentees and receive support and advice from the teachers and other peer mentors. Peer mentors meet with their mentee once a week during tutor time for 6 weeks before reviewing progress and deciding to continue or end the peer mentoring sessions. Mentees can always request sessions in the future if needed.

How do you request a peer mentor?

You can request for a peer mentor who has undertaken training to help you. Please contact Ms Woodward on e.woodward@pwhs.co.uk or Mr Wallace on a.wallace@pwhs.co.uk
