BEAVER ROAD REIGN SUPRMEME

The 3rd cluster primary school competition of the year took place on Thursday 17th March, on the Parrs Wood school playing fields.  Over 70 children from years 3 & 4 from Beaver Road, Cavendish Road, Broadoak and Didsbury C of E came to Parrs Wood to compete in the cross country and athletics competition.  Every child took part in a run, a throw and a jump.
Pupils from Parrs Woods’ Sports Leadership Academy ran the event, as part of a programme of activities aimed at getting more primary school children involved in sports competitions, and more secondary school children organising and running such events.  The young leaders acted as marshals on the cross country course, officials and scorekeepers at the jump and throw stations, did all the workings out for the results table, and presented certificates and medals.   They did a great job, and several of them are now very close to completing their bronze award in leadership which requires 10 hours of school sports volunteering.

The results were as follows:
Individual winners;
Long jump;         James Matthews (Beaver Road) &

Chimno Irula (Didsbury C of E)
Howler/vortex throw;Abrahim Saad (Broadoak) &

Isobel Moss (Beaver Road)
Cross country;     William Hoyle (Beaver Road) &

Lydia Butt (Didsbury C of E)

The team competition (where the results for the top 2 boys and top 2 girls in each activity from each school are combined) were;
1st place;            Beaver Road                  4 points awarded
2nd place;            Broad Oak                    3 points awarded plus 1 bonus point
3rd place;            Cavendish Road            2 points awarded
4th place;             Didsbury C of E            1 point awarded

Beaver Road have extended their lead in the cluster league (see below), but it couldn’t be tighter between the other 4 schools.  Broadoak were awarded a bonus point for winning the best team photo pose competition (see photos), which takes them off the bottom of the table.  There are still 3 competitions left before the end of the school year, so plenty of opportunity for schools to increase their points tally.
