PARRS WOOD HIGH SCHOOL is a popular oversubscribed mixed 11-18 community school with a thriving sixth form that has a proven record of academic excellence.
The original school opened in 1967 as an 11-18 co-educational comprehensive situated in the South Manchester suburb of Didsbury.
It now occupies an enviable site at the heart of the community, having been completely rebuilt in 2000.
Parrs Wood is proud of its place in the community. We believe that our strong links with local primary schools, further and higher education providers and local businesses are of significant benefit to our students.
The School has excellent facilities:
-
All subject areas are suited in dedicated rooms.
-
The school has extensive ICT facilities both within the main school and the Sixth Form with the latest smartboard technology in all teaching rooms.
-
The Independent Learning Centre is available to all pupils which is equipped with computers and a well-stocked library staffed by qualified librarians.
-
Purpose built specialist rooms exist for Technology, Science, Languages and Art.
-
Parrs Wood House, a 1780s listed building, within the campus, has recently become the new home for our Sixth Form which has a proud tradition of academic success.
-
Our sporting facilities include an astro-turf recreational area, large sports hall, gymnasium, dance studio and fitness suite.
-
The main dining hall doubles as a large auditorium and performance space. In addition there is a Drama Studio and Editing Suite.
-
Music facilities provide suites of classrooms, rehearsal rooms and an ICT suite for Music Technology.
-
On site vocational provision has been developed allowing us to provide opportunities for some of our pupils to study Construction, Beauty Therapy and Animal Care alongside their core curriculum.
Our status as a Technology College informs our aspirations for all learners to develop their team work, problem-solving and creative skills. The Technology department regularly organises whole-school `Immersion Days’.
