ICT at PARRS WOOD
Parrs Wood provides courses in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) from Year 7 to Year 13. The school possesses seven ICT suites and additional facilities within each faculty area to encourage the use of ICT across the curriculum.
Students are able to download resources for use in lessons and for use at home via the faculties own website.
Key Stage 3
During Key Stage 3 students are taught a series of units of work which have been adapted from the National Curriculum. These units of work are designed to captivate students and allow them to be creative and imaginative. Students present their work by developing an online portfolio of work.
Students become confident and independent users of a range of ICT applications and understand the impact of ICT in the wider world. Topics covered by the units of work include:
Presenting information in various formats, including sound, presentations, graphically, desktop published documents and content suitable for the worldwide web.
Keeping safe when using the worldwide web and other ICT devices.
How ICT is used in industry and the impact it has on society.
Computer-based animation and film editing.
Students are set a target at the beginning of the Key Stage based on their Key Stage 2 SAT results and are assessed by the teacher at the end of each unit of work. It is expected most students will reach level 4 or 5 in Year 7 and level 5 or 6 in Year 8. Homework is set every other lesson and is not computer based.
